The Mother’s Day dilemma is polarizing the old folks. Half are avoiding being with loved ones and the other half are saying life is not worth living this way as they realize the clock is ticking anyway. It’s almost a war in some communities and the pro-visit crowd is noting their friends in Florida for example are living their lives.

@George-K said in How Yelp/Grubhub screws restaurants: @Loki said in How Yelp/Grubhub screws restaurants: I assume the restaurants are well aware of the costs and are okay with it. If so what am I missing? The impression I got is that restaurants were not, in fact, aware of the costs when the phone number was switched. It seems unclear to me based on their words... like you need the marketing agreement to get listed and that’s one fee and then there is a delivery fee. So the question is once you search and get the restaurant through grub hub marketing how do you get subsequent orders for just the delivery fee? Grubhub offers a “marketing” service to restaurants, which includes being listed on the Grubhub platform, for between 15 percent and 20 percent of each order total. It also offers a physical delivery service, which costs restaurants another 10 percent. Grubhub says it provides phone numbers for restaurants that sign up for marketing but not delivery in order to capture all orders that could be eligible for its fees. “It is our understanding that Grubhub has marketing agreements with some restaurants that allow Grubhub to utilize referral numbers on third party partner sites like Yelp,” a spokesperson for Yelp said in an email. She deferred further questions to Grubhub.“

Several years ago I took care of a patient who was in the hotel "hospitality" aspect of the business - arranging meetings, making VIPs welcome, all that nonsense (we were waiting for the surgeon so we had time to chat). She told me that she had taken care of Little Richard, and unlike his stage persona, he was the most reserved, quiet and gracious man. He tipped exceptionally well, and was a delight.

@jon-nyc said in The coming hospital crisis: @Horace said in The coming hospital crisis: @jon-nyc said in The coming hospital crisis: Usually the conversation is about policy. I think that Covid Doves in general have yet to concede the point that policy isn’t the problem, the fucking virus is. I'm happy to not concede your notion that regardless of what our social response is, the effect of the response is the effect of the virus. I really don't think that's a reasonable notion. It’s obviously not true across every conceivable societal response, but it’s approximately true across actually existing responses, or at least true enough to render many of the complaints about ‘lockdown’ either moot or misdirected. "Masks and protective measures up to but not including always staying home" was never tried.

@Rich said in Here’s your sign: @89th American Sign Language isn’t a direct word for word translation into English. Particularly for those who have been deaf from birth (and have limited experience with standard English) the interpreters can be easier to understand. Rich good to know. I learned ASL basics when my sister needed it when she was younger, it’s funny how I still remember what I had learned way back then, even without practicing.

Above that was the Pence news. My quote about nursing homes was swiped from twitter. Maybe Cuomo made a similar observation.

Actually it wasn’t Y2K now that I think about it but decimalization. Right around the same time. Remember when stocks quoted in fractions?

Hopefully all landlords including commercial landlords are being relaxed with rent payments. It’s a big ripple effect...
